It was a great pleasure to provide the recording and impromptu video recording for the  JAZZ FUSION QUARTET RECORDING SESSION - for the piece "COASTS" COMPOSED BY VAIBHAV MOHANTY.  Vaibhav while now beginning his journey to studies at Harvard university this Fall 2015, he has already composed and had his pieces performed at some wonderful concert halls in the US.  He is certainly a talented and eclectic musician, composer, and artist.

This piece "Coasts" was composed based upon the Odissi Raga Bajrakanti an Indian Classical raga and it performed by this jazz quartet that included:

Anton Derevyanko
Tenor Saxophone

Michael Wooten
Piano

Conner Duke
Bass

Benny Woodard
Drums

Well, this is the perfect example of these damn young people these days!  They can FUNK and Jazz it up!!  A very impressive group of young men, that I look forward to working with in the future.

Recordings were done in one room to maintain interaction and cohesive natural sound.  While we have an elaborate headphone monitoring system, no headphones were used.

Special thanks to Vaibhav for sharing this wonderful composition and developing this production.

Dan Fox QUartet Jazz Recording Sessions at Bop Stop Studios June 2015

It was a great pleasure to record with Dan Fox and the wonderful musicians he brought.  I have had the pleasure of recording Dan before for a Guitar Bass duet, and the opportunity to record with him on trombone was another session to look forward to.  Of course, Dan comes prepared and with his musicians in two hours, they produced four demo tracks with just two takes each.  Despite being short, it was a joy to record these fine musicians and it is our first recordings with our new Focusrite  Rednet system as well as utilizing some of our new microphone acquisitions.  The result was some creamy intimate jazz recordings.

Dan Fox - Trombone
Mike Duke - Guitar
Conner Duke - Double Bass
Santiago Hernandez - Drums

In addition to being just a fine fine player, Dan runs the Morningside Music Studio in Arlington, MA where you can obtain some of the finest instruction around and/or participate in some of the great ensemble groups Dan puts together.

Looking forward to the next recording sessions with Dan for sure!!!!

Bop Stop Studios INstallation of the Newest Audio over Ethernet AD/DA conversion w/ Focusrite REDNET

6/9/2015

Bop Stop Studios took the plunge into an installation of the hottest new Focusrite REDNET sound over ethernet AD/DA interface system.  It utilizes Cat 6 ethernet cables as the conduit into the DAW at stunning speeds and with audiophile grade AD/DA conversion!  While sound over ethernet and the REDNET system have been used as a staple in the broadcast arena, the REDNET system ultimately provides the flexibility and accuracy in sound required for some the very best audio.  Although we are a small 3 room studio, we installed 32 individual microphone/line channels!  We switched from using over 20 mic preamp pairs and individual modules to 4 8 channel units of the highest quality, Grace Designs M802r, Millennia Media HD3R, Aphex 1788A, and Focusrite Rednet 4, all remotely controlled units!

We also made significant investments in our microphone collection.  We added a stereo pair of Coles 4050, Stereo pair of Samar MF65, a Neumann KM84 SDC with Vocal Attachment, a stereo pair of B&O BM3, a second Stereo B&O BM5, stereo pair of Beyerdynamic MCE81NC, a M260, and a pair of Opus MC53!!

Also picked up a Hand-wired 18 watt VHT STD. Tube guitar amplifier and a Cool GK MBS112 Bass amplifier.

We added a fees more personal HearBack Technologies headphone mixers.  These allow for paired individual mixes of the DAW mix, and 4 stereo channels.

Lastly, we are still in the process of minor construction on our studio acoustics.  We have made some significant changes and advancements and are still fine tuning out implementation.

Laurie Goldsmith has been working as an award-winning performing songwriter and as a well-known freelance musician in the Boston area for over twenty years. The Laurie Goldsmith Project performs for both private and public performances and includes originals and well known jazz standards, blues, reggae and latin instrumentals.  “Going Through The Motions”©2015 is a collection of love songs and her first studio album of original material since 1993.  Laurie gathered fellow musicians from the Boston area to assist her on the project, some of whom she has known for many years, and others she is just forging connections with.  The music reflects the different genres that she has loved and performed for over two decades. “Going Through The Motions” offers to the listener a point of connection in the universal experience of falling and being in love. Marion Campos Gullotti Guitar and CavAquinho Recording Sessions at Bop Stop Studios

6/8/2015

At Bop Stop Studios we have had numerous recording sessions with Marion Campos Gullotti.  Marion brought some great compositions that quickly demonstrate her expertise in a wide range of music.  Her tracks ranged from some very romantic Spanish classical style playing to using guitar loops and creating analog sample sounds!  Her playing truly embodies the beauty of the guitar and cavaquinho and it was my great pleasure to have had the chance to work with Marion.  She is currently adding more and more material and ideas to this production and we look forward to her music for all to enjoy!!

Below are just some pics of tracking sessions and some with friends that joined for a voice over session, which was great fun.
